Assistive Bank of Loan Equipment Device Loan Program (ABLE)
What is ABLE?
ABLE offers people with disabilities and their assisting special education personnel, DVR Counselors, One Stop Navigators, and case managers the opportunity to try out an assistive device prior to purchase.
Procedures
If you would like to try out or evaluate/assess assistive
technology (AT) before purchasing it, NMTAP can help. This is all
you have to do:
- DVR clients require:
- To Work with a DVR Counselor for all loans
- IPE must mention NMTAP as providing A.T. needs.
- NMTAP requires:
- Current IPE that mentions A.T. and NMTAP
- Signed Application/Release of Info Form
- DD Waiver clients require:
- To have a case manager and or therapist(s) involved
- NMTAP requires:
- Current ISP that mentions A.T. needs
- Signed Application/Release of Info Form
- NM Public School students require:
- To have a teacher(s) and or therapist(s) involved
- NMTAP requires:
- Current IEP that mentions A.T. needs
- Signed Application/Release of Info Form
- One Stop customers:
- Requires contact with a Navigator through a New Mexico Workforce Connection Center.
Navigators have laptops with accessible software, scanners and alternative
keyboards for loan.
- Others:
- Clients of other agencies require:
- To have a therapist(s) or case manager involved if applicable.
- NMTAP requires:
- Signed Application/Release of Info Form
- One page summary as to how the equipment/software will be
used and how it will help them based on their disability.

The Assistive Bank of Loan Equipment (ABLE) is operated by the New Mexico Technology Assistance Program (NMTAP). NMTAP is a program of the Public Education Department, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR).
ABLE serves school districts, local education agencies such as Regional Educational Centers, and vocational rehabilitation agencies throughout New Mexico. These agencies must have cooperative agreements with NMTAP in order to participate in ABLE's assistive device loan program.
