Second Chance Computer Donation ProgramNMTAP has an active computer donation program that places “gently used” systems in the homes and offices of New Mexicans with disabilities. If you have a computer that is Pentium 3 or higher, we would welcome your donation. And if you have a need for refurbished computer system with a clean operating system that's ready to go, we may be able to help. Please call us at 1-505-341-7171 to discuss your needs. | 1. To receive a free donated computer from the Second Chance program, an interested party with a disability must call 1-800-866-2253 or 954-8565 and ask to be placed on the request list. | |
| 2. The calling party must provide their disability, personal information, a phone number and identify the need for the computer (educational, community living, employment, etc.) | |
| 3. Client information is then dated and entered into NMTAP DataDex database. | |
| 4. Once the calling party's name comes up on the request list, the party is contacted to confirm the computer is ready for pickup. The party will need to come and pick up the computer from the Second Chance office. | |
| 5. An Outgoing Form for the donated computer is required to be completed with all of the calling party information and computer specs. This information is entered into the NMTAP DataDex database for reporting purposes. | |
| 6. When the client picks up the donated computer, the case is closed. | |
| 7. To donate a computer, an interested individual needs to call 1-800-866-2253 or 1-505-341-7171 and make arrangements to drop off the computer at the Second Chance office. The computer needs to be no older than ten years, must be a Pentium 3 or 4. We will accept all laptops no older than ten years. | |
| 8. The computer donor needs to complete an Incoming Equipment Form with their name, address and description of the computer being donated with an estimated cost. Upon request a copy of the form will be given to the individual as a receipt for tax purposes. | |
| 9. Computer donors will be asked to disclose any passwords or other pertinent information on the donated computer. | |
| 10. The computer hard drive will be F disked, cleaned and checked to insure the operating system is working and all drives are installed. A free version of Open Office is included with the computer. | |
| 11. Incoming and Outgoing Equipment Forms will be two-sided as to track computers that are donated and individuals who receive them. The forms are filed in the Second Chance file cabinet for reports and future reference. | |
| 12. Case will be closed when the computer is received by Second Chance program. | |
