Back In Use

NMRAM’s priority is to establish an assistive technology recycling program for New Mexicans with disabilities. Finding used assistive technology can be difficult. There is a need to address technology needs and issues for people who leave nursing homes, hospitals, transfer to in home supports, or when student leave high school to post secondary and employment settings.

NMRAM plans to expand the reutilization of assistive technology devices in home access, recreation, durable medical equipment (DME) and transportation by locating and advertising the available technology to New Mexicans of all ages who have a disability.

NMRAM will be collaborating and coordinating efforts with State Agencies such as the Human Services / Medical Assistance Division, Department of Health, Developmental Disabilities Division, Public School Districts and others to develop new opportunities to reuse useful assistive technologies. New agreements and other collaborative efforts will provide opportunities for the expansion of re-purchase and device transfer to ensure that NMRAM can meet the AT recycling needs of individuals regardless of their location, age or disability.

NMRAM, along with Adelante Development Center Inc., will establish an interactive website that will allow individuals to transfer, sell, and purchase available assistive technology on-line. This website will be coming to you soon.

The New Mexico Reutilization and Acquisition Model Program is funded under Award number H235V060033 from the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA), U. S. Department of Education.

Project RAISE - Reasonable Accommodation Intervention for Successful Employment

Making reasonable accommodations for a qualified applicant or employee with a disability can be key to successful employment. Once an individual with a disability has requested an accommodation, an interactive problem solving process involving the employer and the individual with a disability should be initiated to determine the appropriate accommodation.

Project RAISE was established to promote hiring of qualified persons with disabilities and support successful employment through early intervention for the provision of accommodation. RAISE provides:

  • Technical assistance to employers and employees/job candidates in identifying and implementing accommodations in the workplace;
  • Outreach and training for employers, human resource professionals, rehabilitation professionals and persons with disabilities.

Project RAISE works to expand an information/referral network for needs assessment and provision of assistive technology devices as accommodations.
